kelp & granola bowl

They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and there are a few ways we believe you can start your day off right using the goodness of superfoods and seaweed. This edible kelp & crunchy granola bowl is one of them. It’s highly customizable, sweet, salty, and crunchy all in one bowl. It helps aid great digestion for the day with fiber, antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and protein. Get ready to indulge in a wholesome, nutrient-packed kelp and granola bowl that will leave you feeling nourished and energized.

Kelp, sometimes more commonly referred to as the blanket term, seaweed, has been a staple ingredient in many coastal cuisines for hundreds of years. This edible marine superfood is not only rich in essential vitamins and minerals but also boasts a unique umami flavor that adds depth to a very wide variety of dishes - breakfast being one of them. Packed with antioxidants, kelp supports a healthy immune system and promotes overall well-being. Incorporating kelp into your diet can also contribute to maintaining healthy thyroid function, thanks to its natural iodine content.

Combining the nutritional prowess of kelp with the delightful crunch of granola takes this bowl to a whole new level. Traditional granola offers a hearty blend of whole grains, nuts, seeds, and natural sweeteners, providing an excellent source of fiber and healthy fats. By infusing the granola with the goodness of kelp, we add to it the additional vitamins, minerals, and a touch of umami flavor.

In our kelp & granola bowl, we used frozen blueberries that we harvested from the field next to our house last fall giving this dish a boost of antioxidants, natural chunky peanut butter for protein, and flax seeds. For a bit of added sweetness, we also added a few chocolate chips and a drizzle of maple syrup.

Experimenting with different toppings and flavors can elevate this kelp & granola bowl to new heights. This recipe would be delicious as well with chia seeds, pumpkin seeds, crushed nuts, honey, coconut oil or coconut shreds and a variety of fruits from raspberries, blackberries, apples, bananas and more. To make this more of a desert, add a scoop of vanilla ice cream or Chocolate & Seaweed Ice Cream. You can also substitute the Organic Sugar Kelp Flakes for our Organic Alaria Flakes or Kelp Powder.
